Cytomegalovirus infection in brain tumors

Emerging evidence demonstrate a high prevalence of cytomegalovirus (CMV) proteins and nucleic acids in different tumors. CMV is confined to tumor cells and non-cancer cells in close proximity to tumors are consistently virus negative. CMV confers both oncogenic and oncomodulatory mechanisms, and may therefore provide a novel target in cancer treatment.

O17: Inflammation in Brain and Spinal Cord

our goal in this paper is to describe and compare basic immunopathologic pattern of common demyelinating disorder, that is very important to choose the best treatment. The most common disorders are multiple sclerosis, neuromyelitis optica,Anti MOG associated disease,ADEM and autoimmune encephalitis. ADEM consists of ‘‘sleeves’’ of demyelination centered on small, engorge...

Cytomegalovirus Infection and Atherosclerosis: A Systematic Review

Cytomegalovirus (CMV) infection is one of the most common infections that affects humans’ cardiovascular system. Although the literature includes controversial evidence for any correlation between CMV infection and arterial atherosclerosis, the majority of studies, especially those with larger patient population and stronger data stand for such a relationship. However, the number of prospective...

Murine Cytomegalovirus Infection of Neural Stem Cells Alters Neurogenesis in the Developing Brain

BACKGROUND Congenital cytomegalovirus (CMV) brain infection causes serious neuro-developmental sequelae including: mental retardation, cerebral palsy, and sensorineural hearing loss. But, the mechanisms of injury and pathogenesis to the fetal brain are not completely understood. The present study addresses potential pathogenic mechanisms by which this virus injures the CNS using a neonatal mous...

Cytomegalovirus infection and antibody protection of the developing placenta.

Human cytomegalovirus (HCMV) infection is transmitted from the infected mother to the placenta and fetus. Virus replicates in the decidua, invasive cytotrophoblasts that breach the uterine vasculature and villous cytotrophoblasts underlying syncytiotrophoblasts, then reaches blood vessels in the villus core. Virus replication, fibrosis, and edema result in a hypoxic intrauterine environment and...
